A Device Configuration Profile is a Microsoft Intune profile that applies configuration settings to managed devices.
Technical definition
Intune groups settings into a profile that is assigned to users or device groups. Depending on the platform, the profile can configure operating-system features, networking, security, restrictions, certificates, and other settings exposed by Intune and the device OS.
How it works / role
After assignment, the device synchronizes policy with Intune, receives the settings that apply to it, and reports deployment status. Multiple profiles can target the same device, so conflicts, prerequisites, and unsupported settings can affect the final result.
What is it used for?
Standardize endpoint configuration, enforce security requirements, and reduce manual per-device configuration.
Practical example
An organization deploys a Windows profile that configures selected Defender settings and restrictions on every PC in an Entra ID device group.
