Test DNS resolution of a domain

Ask the configured DNS and then a public DNS server to compare the answers.

Command / script 
$Domain = 'boiteaoutilsinformatique.fr'

'--- DNS configuré sur le poste ---'
Resolve-DnsName $Domain -Type A -ErrorAction Continue

'--- DNS Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 ---'
Resolve-DnsName $Domain -Type A -Server 1.1.1.1 -ErrorAction Continue

When should you use it?

Use this to distinguish a domain problem from a failure of the local DNS resolver.

What the script does

  • The first query uses the workstation's configured DNS service.
  • The second query asks 1.1.1.1 directly for comparison.

Precautions

  • Enterprise networks may intentionally block direct DNS queries to the Internet.

Rollback

No changes are made.
