NAT

Translation of network addresses used in particular to share a public IP address between several private devices.

Simple definition….

The NAT allows several devices in a local network to use a single public address to access the Internet.

Technical definition….

The router changes addresses, and often ports, in packages. The SNAT acts on the source, the DNAT on the destination and the port redirection publishes an internal service.

What’s the point?… ?

Save public IPv4 addresses and publish certain services in a controlled manner.

Concrete example…

All posts in 192.168.1.x appear on the Internet with the public address of the19th.
